At MultiAuto, we specialise in car hire on Réunion, offering a practical way to explore the island in complete freedom. When you choose to hire from us, you will be subject to our General Rental Terms and Conditions (CGL), which govern the terms of your vehicle rental. We want to give you an overview of the main conditions to make your rental experience easier.

When booking your car or van hire on our website, you will be asked to accept our CGL, which means that you have read and accepted these conditions. We make sure that vehicle hire takes place in a transparent and fair manner, by drawing up a contract that protects the interests of both parties.

Before we hand the rental vehicle over to you, we will need certain documents from you, such as your identity document, your address, your valid driving licence and a means of payment in your name. Depending on the vehicle category you choose, other criteria may also be required, such as specific age conditions, a minimum length of time since the driving licence was issued or particular means of payment. Rental is open from the age of 18; a young driver supplement of €3 to €5 per day depending on the rental duration applies to drivers under 23 or who have held their licence for less than 2 years. The exact amount is calculated and displayed at the time of booking.

The rental contract will specify the place where the vehicle will be made available to you. You will be able to collect and return the car at the location of your choice, as stated in the contract, or at one of our four branches: Roland Garros airport (Sainte-Marie), Sainte-Clotilde, Saint-André or Saint-Paul.

Your rental contract is valid for 30 days. If you wish to extend the rental beyond that period, a renewal will be necessary.

When the vehicle is handed over, we will make sure that it is in good condition. However, it is your responsibility to check that it shows no damage or fault at that moment. Likewise, you must return the vehicle in the condition in which you received it.

If you wish to authorise other drivers, please state them in the contract. They will be authorised to drive the vehicle, but they will remain under your responsibility. However, in the event of a breach of the highway code, both the renter and the driver at the time of the offence will be held liable. We recommend that you opt to add an additional driver when you book or when you arrive at the branch.

Age and driving licence

  • Minimum age: rental is open from the age of 18.
  • Driving licence: a valid licence, to be produced when the vehicle is handed over. Depending on the category chosen, a minimum length of time since the licence was issued may be required.
  • Young driver supplement: €3 to €5 per day depending on the rental duration, for drivers under 23 or who have held their licence for less than 2 years. The exact amount is calculated and displayed at the time of booking.
  • Additional driver: every additional driver must be named in the contract and meet the same age and licence conditions. They drive under the renter’s responsibility.

Insurance

We provide third-party liability insurance included in the rental, covering material damage and personal injury for the driver and the passengers. In the event of an accident, it is important to take all the necessary steps to record the facts and preserve the evidence. If the vehicle is stolen, an excess remains payable by the renter (amount according to the category, reducible or removable depending on the protection package chosen (Essentiel, Confort or Sérénité, described below)). We therefore advise you to take all the necessary precautions to avoid this kind of incident, such as parking in a safe place, not leaving the keys inside the vehicle in your absence, and locking all the doors.

Before collecting the vehicle, you will have to pay a security deposit called the “caution”, which will include the vehicle excess as well as a €100 fuel guarantee. In addition, you will have to pay the estimated amount of the rental. If you wish to reduce the excess, you have the option of taking out one of our protection packages, either when you book online or at the branch: the Glass breakage & puncture option (no excess on the glazing and the tyres), the Essentiel package (theft and damage excess reduced by 50%), the Confort package (excess reduced by 50%, protection for the people carried and no excess on glass breakage and tyres) or the Sérénité package (maximum protection: people carried, glass breakage and tyres with no excess, lower and upper bodywork, and theft/damage excess removed or brought down to a maximum amount depending on the vehicle category). The price and the exact amount of the excess are displayed at the time of booking. Accessories are not included in the insurance.

The rental contract ends and liability is lifted only when you return the vehicle, the keys and the administrative documents. The vehicle must be returned during our branches' opening hours.

In the event of non-payment for the services taken out, of damage to the vehicle or of failure to return the vehicle (except in cases of force majeure), the branch will cash in the security deposit.
